Engineering Manager

At Plata, we're building the next generation of financial infrastructure in Mexico - from credit and debit cards to powerful non-banking tools that help our customers manage invoices, taxes, and cash flow with confidence.

We're looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Product Engineering team from day one. You’ll shape the product together with us, own delivery, drive architectural decisions, and build a high-performing team around you.

This is a hands-on leadership role — you’ll be a player-coach, spending your time across three key areas:

1. 30% Product — working closely with product, design, and data to shape what we build
2. 40% Code — contributing to the codebase, setting standards, and reviewing critical pieces
3. 30% Team Leadership — hiring, coaching, and building processes around the team

You'll be the first engineer on the team, setting the foundation for how we scale.

Challenges that await you:

1. Leading the team in hiring, planning, task decomposition, process improvements, and cross-team collaboration
2. Overseeing team performance, ensuring on-time project delivery aligned with business goals
3. Contributing to the architecture, design, and development of Golang backend services
4. Solving complex challenges, conducting code reviews, and ensuring high-quality solutions

What makes you a great fit:

1. 2+ years of experience leading engineering teams (hiring, development, performance, and delivery management)
2. Proficiency in cross-team collaboration in high-load environments
3. 4+ years of experience as a developer
4. Experience with robust, high-scale, distributed systems
5. Willingness to learn, adapt, and collaborate effectively
6. Understanding of high-load architecture
